Ingredients
Scale
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup chopped almonds
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Alternately add the dry ingredients and yogurt to the butter mixture, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
Fold in the chopped almonds.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For added richness, consider using dark chocolate cocoa powder.
