Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup golden syrup or light corn syrup

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Soak chopped dates in boiling water and baking soda for 10 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Fold in the flour and salt gradually.
  7. Mix in the soaked dates along with the water until well combined.
  8. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
  9. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. In a saucepan, heat cream and golden syrup until warm.
  11. Serve the cake warm, drizzled with the cream sauce.
