Satsuma Breakfast Gumbo

Experience the delicious blend of turkey bacon and chicken ham in a flavorful gumbo that will elevate your breakfast.

  • 4 slices turkey bacon
  • 1 cup chicken ham, diced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 cups okra, sliced
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the turkey bacon and cook until crispy. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, add onion, celery, and bell pepper. Sauté until softened.
  4. Add garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer.
  6. Add chicken ham, Cajun seasoning, and bay leaf. Cook for 10 minutes.
  7. Stir in okra, and return the turkey bacon to the pot. Simmer for another 5-7 minutes.
  8. Season with salt and pepper, and stir in parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier gumbo, add additional Cajun seasoning.
  • Gumbo can be served over rice for a heartier meal.
